The MCAC and Viking Cooking School offer you the opportunity to take part in lots of amazing culinary and life experiences such as hands-on cooking classes, celebrity chef appearances, Stainless Steel Chef competitions, and catered private, corporate and team building events.

At the Viking Cooking School enroll in classes that cover a single topic and last just a few hours or in a series class which covers several topics and last up to twelve weeks.

Here are some of the great options you have to choose from.

In a Hands-On Workshop students learn cooking techniques from an instructor by preparing menu items using Viking’s professional appliances, cookware, and cutlery. The class is limited to twelve students and only takes a few hours.

Students can also take Demonstrations classes where they learn by watching an instructor take them step by step though the preparation of a dish or dishes. 18 wheelers are very large trucks and I am sure the cause a lot of damage to the cars they hit and the people inside.

I am always on the lookout for new, creative, and unique places and Bolsa is definitely one of those places. If you are someone who appreciates and supports organic and locally grown food then you should really like Bolsa.

Bolsa is a restaurant, market, and wine bar all rolled into on. One of the most interesting things about the place is that there kitchen has no freezer or fryer. I guess that is because at Bolsa they prefer to serve their customers fresh food. What a novel idea! The Bolsa menu changes on a regular basis because food comes in fresh daily.

Because of this there is a different special every night. Many of the ingredients used to make the meals in the Bolsa cafe can also be purchased in their market.

At the Bolsa market you can find things like organic pasta, artisan chocolates, fresh honey, beeswax candles, virgin olive oil, roses, cactus, coffee, tea, sodas, newspapers and much more.

The bar at Bolsa serves cocktails and craft beers but they are most passionate about their wines. They are always looking for new wines that will be “affordable, interesting, and sensational.” One of their staples is their home-made Sangria which comes in a classic red, a crisp white, and with fruit infusions.

Prairie Creek Baptist Church is located in the southeast part of Dallas in a little area known as Pleasant Grove. It was founded back in the early 1930′s and the main building was constructed in the 1970′s.

The congregation is small. There are probably less than seventy people all told. And the congregation is a mixture of older whites (most over sixty) and middle aged Hispanic families. There have been a few church splits over the years which is partly why the congregation is so small. But most of the people their are very friendly and welcoming. In some ways it’s like a family even if it is a dysfunctional one at times like most families.

The pastor of the church is Norm Taylor. He is white but he grew up in Peru with his missionary family. He is fluent in Spanish and delivers his sermons in both English and Spanish. He’ll say a few lines in English for the English-speakers and then a few in Spanish for the Spanish-speakers. Pastor Taylor is a really caring guy with a real heart for people and for God.

Prairie Creek Baptist Church also has a children’s ministry and a small youth group. Most of the children and teens are Hispanic. I was the youth pastor at the church for a couple of years before my family and I moved on. I enjoyed working with the teens and taking them to summer camp each year.

Their are a lot of really good people at this church. If you are looking for a small church with somewhat of a family feel to it you’ll probably like Prairie Creek Baptist Church. And the great thing is they’re not a cult. If you visit and find that you don’t like it you are free to leave.Similar Posts:

The Palladium Ballroom has lots of great shows to close out 2010 and kick off the new year. It is located on South Lamar just south of I-30 between the Dallas Convention Center and South Side on Lamar.

Here are some of the upcoming shows. Cake is playing Thursday, December 30th at 8:00pm. Tickets are $35.00. The band Girl Talk plays Saturday January 15th, at 8:00pm. Tickets cost $25.00. One week later on January 22nd comes four bands: Underoath, Thursday, A Skylit Drive, and Animals as Leaders. The show kicks off at 7:30pm and tickets go for $19.99. On Wednesday, February 2nd, Cradle of Filth plays the Palladium at 7:00pm. Tickets are $25.00. The next day Thursday, February 3rd, is the Jack Daniels Kick Off Party featuring the Flaming Lips with special guest Neon Indian. The show begins at 8:00pm at tickets cost $55.00. On Sunday, February 6th, P Diddy comes to town on his Live Grand Finale tour. The show kicks off at 9:00pm and tickets are selling for the astounding sum of $103-$153.00. Prince Royce plays the Palladium on Friday, March 25th at 8:00pm. Tickets are 29.50. On Friday, April 8th the bands All Time Low, Yellow Card, Hey Monday, and The Summer Set will play. Tickets go for $25.00. And finally, you can see the Avett Brothers on Saturday, April 16th at 9:00pm. Tickets for that show are $35.00.

If you see something you like be sure to check it out at this cool downtown venue. Here’s a few more things to note about the Palladium Ballroom. All the events are general admission unless they say otherwise. That means standing room only. General Admission Parking is $10.00 and VIP parking is $20.00. If you get hungry be sure to check out the Studio Bar and Grill located inside the Palladium. Their is no smoking inside the building but there is an outside patio available for smokers. And no cameras or recording devices are allowed.

Driving around the metroplex you see a lot of bariatric surgery and weight loss billboards. One of the most eye catching shows a before and after picture of a guy and claims that he lost 100lbs in 100days. I think the slogan is lose forty pounds in forty days. Well I had to check this out and see what was up.

So I went to their website at www.40lbs40days.com. Apparently this thing is booming because they have offices in Plano, Dallas, Arlington, Las Colinas, Flower Mound, Waco, Temple, Killeen, Tyler, Burleson, Southlake, Frisco and Ft. Worth. Unfortunately I couldn’t find out much of anything about what they actually do to help you lose weight. They have several impressive testimonials with pictures but no real info.

The idea of counseling used to be somewhat of a taboo in Christian circles. We were supposed to memorize scripture and pray all of our emotional and mental issues away. But for a lot of Christians that wasn’t enough. Our problems weren’t going away and we really needed someone to talk to. But we also needed to talk to someone who understood and shared our worldview. We needed a Christian counselor.

Today Christian counseling is spreading rapidly and is far more acceptable. I began to get counseling from a couple of years ago when I was going through a very difficult time. Well, I’m always going through difficult times but I was at a point then when I recognized that I really needed help. So I began to see Mike Hamilton at Gateway Biblical Counseling.

Mike is a very real, down-to-earth, caring person. He won’t beat up on you but he won’t let you get away with playing games either. Finally, with them meds I experience anger and sadness the way most people do.

Dr. Brennan is a psychiatrist in the Dallas area. I was recently referred to him by my family doctor in order to get some helpful meds. I was told by my counselor that psychiatrists usually only talk to patients for about fifteen minutes before prescribing some medication to them. But Dr. Brennan spent close to an hour talking with me.

He asked me lots of questions about all sorts of things. So I was glad he spent that amount of time with me. But I still wasn’t sure he was hearing my major concerns the first time I saw him. I had side effects with the first medication he prescribed for me. The pills kept me up all night and not in a good way like Viagra. When I tried to call him to explain what was going on I had a hard time getting through to him. This is my worst complaint about his office.

Every time you call you only get an answering machine. I didn’t expect to talk directly to him when I called. But I was hoping I could at least talk to his receptionist. No, dice though. Literally, every time you call you will get the answering machine. It was almost two days later when Dr. Brennan finally called me back and said I should stop taking the medicine. The next time we met I felt like he was totally listening to my concerns and was very helpful.

He prescribed some new medication for me and it has really made a great improvement in my well being. My family is very happy with the results too. Now, however, I have found out that the medication is going to expensive for me. So Dr. Brennan is working on finding a cheaper generic version for me. Let’s hope that it works out. I would recommend Dr. Brennan to anyone who needs to see a psychiatrist about getting meds. Overall I think he does a really good job.Similar Posts:

Carl Miller’s auto shop is hidden away on quiet country road in Pleasant Grove. The only way you’ll hear about him is through word of mouth. Or this website. I’ve been a friend of Carl’s for over three years now. We went to church together which is how I found out about his mechanic skills. Let’s just say he’s saved our butts or our cars butt (bumper?) on more than one occasion.

Carl has a small auto shop and he is the only mechanic there. He doesn’t do anything involving computer diagnostics, state inspections, or things like that. But he does most everything else. He is a good and reliable mechanic (his shops been around since 1984). And he won’t try to rip you off. In fact, he probably doesn’t charge as much as he should sometimes. If you can find a mechanic like that, hold on to them and pass the word along. That’s what I’m doing.

Carl has helped us with numerous oil changes. He fixed our van when it started leaking coolant like crazy. He gets our vehicles in good condition to go on long trips. He’s fixed our air conditioning (which is like saving a life in Texas).

What I’m trying to say is that Carl Miller has mad mechanic skills. He’s reliable and affordable. So if you are able to get in to see him I would highly recommend it. Your car and your wallet will thank you.Similar Posts:

I was recently writing a grad school paper when my stomach informed me that it was high time I got some dinner. I cruised around the Lakewood area for a while but couldn’t think where to go. There were plenty of good restaurants but I had two very specific criteria in mind and I didn’t know if any of them would be able to meet them. I wanted to eat healthy and I wanted to eat cheap. So after cruising around for a while I went to my default restaurant – Subway.

I hit the one on the corner of Abrams and Mockingbird. It’s a nice clean little one which is attached to a TCBY so you can also get a fairly healthy dessert if you wanted to. Since it was dinnertime I had to wait in line. The ladies behind the counter were really hustling, though, so it wasn’t a long wait. I decided to get the sub of the day because it’s a really good bargain and it looked pretty healthy. The sub of the day that day happened to be the Oven Roasted Chicken. I got a six inch version on nine grain wheat bread with no cheese (watching my cholesterol). I picked lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, green and banana peppers for my toppings and some red wine vinaigrette.

The service there was quick and friendly even though they were so busy. The sub of the day only cost $2.70 that’s counting tax. That’s about half of what you’d pay for a regular six inch sub. Also the sub was really good. I could have totally enjoyed it even without the chicken. But the chicken made the sub even heartier and gave me some good protein.

There is a different sub-of-the-day every day at Subway (hence the name) but not all of them are as healthy as the Oven Roasted Chicken but they are all a good deal. I’m looking forward to trying a few more subs at this Subway in the future.Similar Posts:
