You don’t have to just watch the freaks on the popular Jersey Shore show anymore. Now you can eat like the freaks on Jersey Shore at Jersey Mike’s Subs. Well, that is, if the aforementioned freaks are into good Jersey subs and wraps.

My family and I needed to load up on some good grub before settling down to watch the World Cup Finals (curse you, Spain!). After church we headed on down W. Lovers Lane until we found Jersey Mike’s. If you’ve never been there before, parking can be a little bit of an issue. There are not a lot of parking spots in front of the restaurant and by the time you see the restaurant, you’ve usually probably missed the entrance. We had to circle around and come back. If you happen to come at a particularly busy time and find that all the parking spots out front are taken, don’t worry. There are plenty of parking spaces available around the corner in the back. Unfortunately there is no back entrance into Jersey Mike’s Subs so you will have to walk back around front after you park.

Once we parked and went inside, I liked the look of Jersey Mike’s right away. It’s clean. There is plenty of seating available (booths and small tables) and the décor is nice. The walls are painted an appealing shade of green and there is some attractive faux wood thrown in here and there for good measure. There is also a big painting of an old postcard featuring the Jersey Shore back in the day.

But enough about the décor. What about the food? Jersey Mike’s Subs has a small but tasty menu. You can get hot or cold subs, wraps, or a salad. All the cold subs come in three sizes: mini, regular, and giant. And they are all served Mike’s Way (with onions, lettuce, tomatoes, red wine vinegar, and olive oil blend and spices). If you don’t want it Mike’s Way, just tell them exactly how you want it and they will take care of it. We found the service at Jersey Mike’s to be very good. There was a small mistake on one of our orders and they were very concerned about making sure that we got everything exactly the way we wanted it. Also the employees were friendly and helpful.

Ok, about those cold subs. The Jersey Shore’s Favorite (provolone, ham, and cappacuolo), the American Classic (ham and provolone) and the Veggie (Swiss, provolone, and green bell peppers). The price for a mini-sub of any of these three subs is $4.25. A regular size sub costs $5.60. And  a giant size sub goes for $8.99 – a big price for a big sub. The Super Sub (provolone,  ham, prosecuting, and cappacuolo), The Turkey Breast and Provolone, and Albacore Tuna fish (made fresh at the restaurant) cost $4.25 for a min-sub, $5.95 for a regular-size, and $9.50 for a giant size sub.

My family all decided to go with the Turkey and Provolone sub. My wife and kids ordered the mini-subs with a bag of chips and a drink. You can add a small bag of chips (they have several different kinds) and a twenty-two ounce drink to your sandwich for an additional $1.95 or chips and a thirty-two ounce drink for $2.15. The soda fountain has mostly Pepsi products, as well as lemonade and root beer. There are also some decent iced tea options. I tried the unsweetened Blueberry Green Tea and it was good, especially with some lemon wedges squeezed in and a little sugar. The Turkey and Provolone Subs were very good. All my boys enjoyed theirs. I got mine on whole wheat, and the turkey at Jersey Mike’s subs is 99% fat free which is a great deal for me since I am trying to lose weight and lower my cholesterol. If you’re in the same boat this is a nice healthy option for you (just make sure you don’t get a lot of mayo on it), and it tastes better than a sandwich from Subway. I ordered the regular size sub and found it to be quite filling and satisfying.

Some other cold sub options at Jersey Mike’s include the Famous Roast Beef and Provolone (the roast beef is top round Angus and is cooked on the premises) and the Original Italian (provolone, ham, prosecuting, cappacuolo, salami, and pepperoni. Ok, these aren’t healthy but they sound delicious. If you don’t need to worry about you waistline this might be a great option for you. These bad boys go for $4.60 for a mini-sub, $6.60 for a regular size sub, and $9.99 for a giant size sub.

For the same prices, there are two more cold sub options available at Jersey Mike’s. The Club Sub (turkey, ham, provolone, bacon, and mayo) and the Club Supreme (roast beef, turkey, Swiss, bacon, and Mayo).

For those few people out there who are still doing the Atkins Diet, Jersey Mike’s offers the Sub in a Tub. Eat your sub ingredients in a bowl without the bread. Have fun with that one.

If you are more of a hot sub or cheese steak kind of person, Jersey Mike’s also has several great choices for you. You can choose steak or chicken for your cheese steak sandwich. There is no mini size available for the hot subs and cheese steaks. They only have the regular and giant size. Let’s talk cheese steaks. Jersey Mike’s Famous Philly (grilled onion and peppers), and Chipotle Cheese Steak (grilled onion and peppers, and chipotle mayo). The regular size price for these is $6.50 and the giant size price is $9.80. The Big Kahuna Cheese Steak (grilled onions and peppers, mushrooms, jalapenos, and extra cheese) costs $6.70 for the regular size and $10.20 for the giant size.

Besides the yummy cheese steaks, there are also three hot subs. One is the Meatball and Cheese sub. I love meatball and cheese subs. Alas, my cholesterol levels will no longer allow me to indulge in all that warm cheesy, meaty, saucy goodness. There is also the Chicken Parm (melted provolone, tomato sauce, and parmesan cheese) and the Grilled Pastrami Reuben (Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing. I don’t feel at all bad about missing out on the Grilled Pastrami Reuben. Swiss Cheese, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island Dressing? Yeesh!

Besides all the hot and cold subs, Jersey Mike’s has five different kinds of Wraps for $6.25 each. The Chicken Caesar wrap has grilled chicken breast with lettuce, cheese, and Caesar dressing. The Buffalo Chicken wrap has grilled chicken breast covered in buffalo sauce with melted American cheese, lettuce, tomato, and blue cheese dressing. The Baja Chicken has grilled chicken breast, American cheese, lettuce and jalapeno peppers. The Grilled Veggie wrap has grilled peppers and onions, melted Swiss and provolone, lettuce, tomato, and home-style ranch dressing. The Turkey Wrap has oven roasted turkey with lettuce, tomato, and honey mustard sauce. These all sound really good to me except the Baja Chicken. The Grilled Veggie wrap would be a healthy option, minus the cheese, of course. I wouldn’t miss the Swiss but the provolone would be hard to pass up. Besides the five wraps listed you have the option of turning any sub on the menu into a wrap.

Finally, Jersey Mike’s Subs also has soup and salads. The soups go for $2.49 a cup and $2.99 a bowl. There are four kinds of salad available. The Tossed salad (fresh greens, tomatoes, green bell peppers, and cucumbers) costs $3.99. The Chicken Caesar, The Chef salad (fresh greens with ham, turkey, and cheese) and the Tuna Salad (greens and tuna) cost $6.10. That’s some expensive salad!

Besides the Jersey Mike’s on W. Lovers Lane there are at least four other locations I know of in Dallas. One is on 5521 Greenville Avenue, Suites 108B and 109. Their number is (214) 692-6981. There’s another one at 13378 Preston Road. The number is (972) 385-9122. The next Jersey Mike’s is at 14060 Dallas Parkway, Suite 400. The phone number is (972) 387-1400. And the last location is at 8411 Preston Road, Suite 118. The number is (214) 691-7827.

If you like subs and wraps give Jersey Mike’s Subs a try. They’re tastier than Subway. The service is good. It’s a nice place to sit down for lunch or to get something to go. Oh, and did I mention the subs are good?
