Piggie Pies makes my favorite gourmet pizza in Dallas. Whether I eat it for lunch, dinner, or even for breakfast the next morning – it’s all good. I’m not the only one who likes the pizza. It was voted the best in Dallas in 2001 & 2006 by the Dallas Observer. Piggie Pies uses fresh ingredients, and you can definitely taste the difference from your run of the mill pizza parlor where the pizza sometimes tastes like cardboard scantily clad with cheese, fatty pieces of pepperoni, and mushy vegetables.

Piggie Pies is a small place located on Greenville Avenue. The décor is somewhat lacking. You’ll find traditional checkered tablecloths on a handful of tables and booths and a large television which takes up nearly an entire wall. But it’s not the ambiance that makes Piggie Pies such a popular destination. It’s the (drum roll, please): Pepperoni • Green Bell Peppers • Anchovies • Italian Sausage • Red Bell Peppers • Sun Dried Tomatoes • Hamburger • Spinach • Fresh Tomatoes • Canadian Bacon • Fresh Garlic • Jalapeños • Grilled Chicken • Onions • Goat Cheese • Hormel Bacon • Zucchini • Feta Cheese • Fresh Mushrooms • Broccoli • Mozzarella Cheese • Black Olives • Pineapple • Extra Cheese • Green Olives and Artichoke Hearts on that wonderful crust that will keep you coming back. Well, OK, maybe not the anchovies.
At Piggie Pies, you can create your own designer pizza using any or all of these ingredients. If you are not feeling particularly creative, however, the artists at Piggie Pies can help you out. A great option is one of their specialty pizzas, like the Thai Chicken Pizza, with spicy peanut sauce, chicken, red and yellow bell peppers, green onions, sesame seeds and chili peppers. My favorite gourmet option is the Bacon Alfredo Pizza with bacon, onions, sliced tomatoes and our homemade Alfredo sauce. Serious cravings are coming over me as I write this review. The next pie I want to try is the Pizza al Pesto, made with homemade pesto sauce, chicken, onions, red peppers, and cheeses.
Piggie Pies also has plenty of tempting pasta dishes on the menu, like lasagna, carbonara, manicotti, cannelloni, ravioli, parmegiana, along with the obligatory salad and breadsticks. They also have buffalo wings (hot-n-spicy or barbeque). Since dessert is a necessity on just about any menu, they offer four different kinds of cheesecake slices, though they are not really worth mentioning. Normally, I find cheesecake worth mentioning. It just isn’t in this case.
The service is generally good. I mean, the food is better, but I haven’t had any real complaints. It’s not as cheap as CiCi’s buffet (surprise, surprise), but you can order an 8” personal gourmet pizza for $7.75, and that would be quite a satisfying meal for your average hungry belly.
Piggie Pies offers free delivery in the area (around Greenville Ave & Lovers Lane). They are open until midnight Sunday through Thursday and until 1am on the weekend! So what are you waiting for? If you love great pizza. Give Piggie Pies a shot.
