My boys had a hankering for an ice cream treat recently. We couldn’t go to just any ice cream place. It had to be Braum’s. Two of my boys are hooked on Braum’s birthday cake ice cream.

The birthday cake ice cream is quite good and it tastes like there are real pieces of birthday cake in it. My other son is a little bit of a chocoholic. Anything chocolate seems to please him.

This time he ordered the German chocolate ice cream. You can get your ice cream in a regular ice cream cone, a waffle cone, or a plastic cup. I always want the kids to get their ice cream in the plastic cup, but they always choose the cone or waffle cone. I can’t blame them.

They taste good and they are more fun. If your kids decide to go the cone route, all I can say is, get plenty of napkins. Mounds of them would not be overdoing it. My boys always have ice cream all around their mouth, running down their chins, hands, and wrists.

It almost invariably ends up on their shirts no matter how hard I try to beat it with the napkins, so be sure your kid isn’t wearing his best clothes.

Well, the kids don’t mind getting sticky and they had a great time, so that’s always a good thing. I just wish that the bathroom in the Braum’s on Lake June was bigger. When we finished I went to take my sons to the bathroom to get a thorough de-sticking and washing up only to discover that Braum’s bathroom is designed for one occupant at a time.

So we had to wait until the construction worker ahead of us had finished his business. Meanwhile, I tried to keep my kids from touching each other, anyone or anything else.

When we go out for a meal at Braum’s, I usually order the chicken fried steak sandwich or the third-pound cheeseburger. Both are really good. I like just about anything involving chicken fried steak. The cheeseburger is very juicy, tasty, cheesy (of course) and filling.

They put all the fixings on it, too. It’s one of my wife’s favorite burgers. It looks as though Braum’s has also added some new chicken sandwich options to their menu which look quite tempting, so I may have to try one of those in the future.

I really like Braum’s crinkle-cut style fries and their ketchup pumped into those little white paper cups. I usually add salt to them whether they need it or not.

I usually don’t say this about a restaurant (except for Sonic), but one of my favorite things about Braum’s is their drinks. I love their limeades. You get to watch them squeeze the fresh limes into your drink and you can’t wait to taste all that tart and sweet goodness.

If I have any room left in my stomach for dessert, I usually won’t get an ice cream cone unless it’s a special seasonal one or something on sale. It’s not that I’m afraid of ice cream melting and dripping all over me. I just really like Braum’s peanut butter and hot fudge sundae. MMMM!

What a great combo. It’s like eating a bowl full of ice cream and melted Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

Besides the great food, Braum’s just feels like a great family restaurant to me. I like the family-friendly booths and tables, the easy accessibility of ice cream, and the general feel of the place. Another good feature of Braum’s is their little grocery store area.

You can usually find good deals on certain items like milk or ice cream cones, for example. My wife usually checks the store while we’re there, since their prices on some items are cheaper than other grocery stores.

And their milk tastes very good, so it’s a good idea to pick up a gallon while you are there. Because you will be going soon, won’t you?
